Hoping to bring a little African sunshine to a potentially gloomy winter, this month Vhairi Jane Moir releases her latest children's book, Great Auntie Betty and the Serengeti.

When an old aunt visits, she doesn't come alone.

Much to Mum and Dad's dismay, Great Auntie Betty brings a magical trunk filled with exotic animals from Africa.

Chaos, delightfully ensues.

Inspired by a life-long friend's eccentric aunt, who sadly passed away a few months ago, this rhyming, page-turning, counting adventure will amuse and entertain children and grown-ups alike.

Well known to Advertiser readers as a former reporter, Vhairi said: "Moving from Inverurie to Houston last summer, everything was going oh-so-well until 2020 hit.

"This year has been a reminder, if any, that we should pursue our dreams and shine light in the world, where and when we can."

Great Auntie Betty and the Serengeti is her second children's book released this year and follows on from her debut chapter book, Hamish Montgomery and the Cursed Claymore, which has earned fans, young and old.

From picture books to young person’s fiction, the one-time Advertiser reporter endeavours to share fun, imaginative and amusing stories, in hope that some might stick in the minds of little – and not-so-little people – around the world.

Copies of the books are available to purchase from Strachan's newsagent in Inverurie.
