Members of Auchnagatt Barons AFC were the latest to tackle the 24 hour running challenge to raise money for Marie Curie.

In 24 hours the team collectively ran over 293km, which each person taking a one hour slot to cover as much distance as possible, and for their efforts they raised £1179 from in-person donations as well as many donations being made directly to the challenge's Justgiving page.

The challenge to raise money for Marie Curie was started by Tarves and Methlick Football Clubs following the sudden loss of Garry Finnie (32).

Over the years he had played for both teams, and was an avid supporter of local football.

Following the event, the Auchnagatt Barons expressed their gratitude to everyone who had supported them writing: "Well done to all participants in completing the 24 hour running challenge - a total distance of 293.3 km was achieved.

"A superb effort from everyone involved.

"A big thank you to everyone who has supported us by kindly donating their money for a great cause - all money raised has being donated to Marie Curie in memory of Garry Finnie who sadly passed away earlier this month.

"We would now like to nominate Ellon Thistle FC and Ellon United JFC to undertake the challenge."

So far the challenge has raised over £23,000 for Marie Curie (correct as of noon on Monday, June 29) and anybody wishing to donate can do so through the Justgiving page www.justgiving.com/fundraising/methlick-fc.
