AN annual event being staged in Oldmeldrum next week will be music to the ears of young people.

The town’s Rotary Club are holding its young musician competition at Meldrum Academy on Monday at 7pm.

It is open to solo instrumentalists and vocalists up to the age of 17 and will be judged in age groups.

The Rotary young musician competition provides a stage for musical talent to shine in regional competitions before the grand final itself.

Starting with club level competitions, winners progress to district events followed by regional contests with the hope of appearing at the national final.

This four stage national competition aims to encourage development of musical talent and offers young people experience of performing on a public stage.

Those taking part will also gain impartial feedback of performance by experienced adjudicators.

Young piper Alex Gullan clinched the title at the district competition at Meldrum Academy last year.

Oldmeldrum Rotary Club’s Von Webb said:“Linda Moggach and her team put in so much effort to help make this one of the most popular competitions Rotary offer throughout the year.

“The talent of the children is amazing.

“We have so many gifted children musically in the

catchment area.”

People can look forward to seeing the youngsters perform in the academy’s hall.

This event is held in partnership between the Rotary and academy’s music department as a means of showcasing talented musicians.
