A96 likely to reopen tomorrow, SGN says
A major trunk road is set to remain closed until tomorrow, with motorists having already faced two days of disruption.
The A96 in Keith has been closed since for “emergency” repairs related to a “gas escape” since Wednesday afternoon.
Gas distribution company SGN, the firm behind the works, confirmed that the road is expected to reopen tomorrow morning (Saturday, December 14).
Bradley Barlow, a spokesperson for SGN, said: “We’ve completed repairs to our gas network in the A96 and reinstatement of the road is currently taking place.
“All being well, we hope to reopen the road tomorrow morning.”
The road is currently closed between the A95 and A96 junction north of Keith, and the junction with the A95 Banff Road to the east.
The Traffic Scotland website details a diversion sending road users to exit the A96 at Fochabers in favour of the A98 to Portsoy, before using the A95 to rejoin the A96 at Keith.
An update, posted online at 6.17am this morning, said: “The A96 at Keith is closed in both directions due to essential roadworks.
“Motorists are advised to use the available diversion route and allow extra time for their journey.”
At the time of publication, Traffic Scotland’s live traffic map indicated areas of “slow traffic” before and after the closure.
