Aldi have submitted a planning application to Aberdeenshire Council to develop a modern foodstore on Duff Street in Macduff.

If approved, it would see the first Aldi delivered in the area, and represent an investment of £3.27 million in the town.

It will importantly create up to 35 local jobs within the store, together with new jobs during construction and within the Aldi supply chain.

The submission follows an online consultationwhere all those with an interest in the proposals had an opportunity to view and importantly provide feedback to the project team on the development.

Philip Johnston, Aldi’s Property Director for Scotland said: “I am delighted to have submitted the application for Macduff, and even more so given the unprecedented level of support we have received for the proposals.

"Having long held aspirations to bring our award-winning discount offer to the area I am thrilled that 708 individuals were in favour of bringing an Aldi to Duff Street, representing 98.3 per cent support from all feedback we received during our pre-application consultation’.

"As I have mentioned previously, the store is designed to meet the shopping needs of residents not only living within the local area, but importantly add an additional choice for residents as well as retaining local spend which may have been lost to other areas.

"This was a key issue raised during the consultation, with more than 50 per cent of respondents stating that they did their food shopping out with the local area.’

"I would like to take this opportunity to thank all our supporters for their positive comments and would urge them to formally write to Aberdeenshire Council to make sure their views are full considered upon the application been determined by the Council.’’

At present the applications will be examined by Aberdeenshire Council's planning staff and once all documents are confirmed, will appear on the council's website for a period of public feedback before beginning the procedural steps for approval.

Should the application be approved, construction could start as early as January 2023 with the store opening to welcome new customers and neighbours as early as October 2023.

The proposals seeks to create a 881sqm gross/1315sqm net foodstore, plus staff welfare and storage areas with parking for 106 vehicles including nine accessible, seven staff and nine parent and children bays, as well as four electric charging spaces and 10 cycle spaces.
