The work was due to be carried out by Amey from Wednesday, July 10 to Wednesday, July 17.
It was set to take place between the Cairnie junction and 520 metres south of Windyraw junction.
A full weekend road closure of the A96 between 7.30pm on Friday, July 12 and 6.30am on Monday, July 15 was scheduled, but has been postponed due to adverse weather forecasts.
An Amey spokesman said: “It means the A96 between Cairnie junction and south of Windyraw junction will be open this weekend.
“The scheme will be rescheduled for a future date later this year. Information will be issued once work details are confirmed.”
