Following the announcement that 12 facilities across the north-east would be operated on a booking slot basis, Aberdeenshire Council established an online booking system to enabling residents to start making trips to Household Recycling Centres.

The slots were initially released for the first week up to June 7 and run in 30 minute intervals for sites, with slots for the following days released daily seven days in advance, so customers should keep on checking back if they don’t manage to get a slot initially.

At present access is limited to cars and car derived vans only with single occupants taking either green waste, household waste as per domestic black bins and electrical items being accepted.

At Turriff on Monday morning, signs warned drivers in advance of a one way system which is now operating for access and exit and higher than normal numbers of staff were on site, checking entry from the main road, signing off registration of vehicles in reference to the bookings which had been made and ensuring that residents were able to park up quickly into the three designated bays.

Elsewhere, the volume of expected traffic at Inverurie has led to a temporary reduction in the speed limit to 20mph on the Oldmeldrum Road due to the majority of traffic entering the site having to take a right hand turn across the main road to do so.

Residents can make booking at www.aberdeenshire.gov.uk/recyclingcentrebookings

For those who do not have access to a computer, telephone booking can be made by calling Aberdeenshire Council’s Wasteline on 03456 081207.

It was also confirmed that green waste points will come into operation across Aberdeenshire as of June 6.
