A “gas escape” has forced the A96 to close “until further notice”.

The trunk road is closed in Keith, between the A95 junction north of Keith and the A95 Banff Road junction.

Details on the Traffic Scotland website state that the disruption, related to a “gas escape”, began at 2.19pm today.

The agency also says the road will be closed “until further notice”.

A statement added: “The A96 at Fochabers is closed in both directions due to essential roadworks.

“Motorists are advised to use the available diversion route and allow extra time for their journey.”

In a post on X, roads operator Amey said the closure was to allow “emergency repairs” by Scottish Gas Network.

The diversion means that drivers will be redirected via the A95 to Portsoy and the A98 to Fochabers.
