HOUSEHOLDERS are being warned to be alert for unscrupulous doorstep traders.

Be wary of people offering to carry out roof repairs and other jobs around your home.
Be wary of people offering to carry out roof repairs and other jobs around your home.

The warning comes from Moray Council’s trading standards section which deals with complaints every year about callers who post flyers offering services such as roof repairs, driveways, patios or garden clearance.

These traders often use misleading or intimidating practices to obtain large amounts of money from vulnerable consumers, particularly the elderly.

Moray Council trading standards manager Peter Adamson said: "Trading standards relies on information from the public to help identify the rogues. Every bit of information on problem traders helps us prevent people being ripped off.

Trading standards can be contacted on 0300 123 4561.
