A KEITH cafe has been named as the North of Scotland's best coffee shop.

Boogie Woogie took the title at the Scottish Independent Retail Awards 2019, which were announced during a ceremony at Glasgow's Marriott Hotel.

Among the 300 guests at the glittering event were owners Anne Holmes and Ryan Rodger, who took over the popular Regent Square business just nine months ago.

Anne, who worked at Boogie Woogie for some 10 years before taking ownership, said: "We really weren't expecting it at all. We went because we were nominated but we were shocked when we won the award. We would like to thank everyone who has helped make Boogie Woogie a success."

Both Anne and Ryan are from Keith, where Ryan also has his own joinery business.

As well as busy cafe and gift shop life, they welcomed baby Innes into their family in December and now have six children between them.

Although they don't have a spare minute, Anne said they love running the business, with the award win the icing on the cake.

Now in its 9th year, the Independent Retail Awards are held to recognise the contribution of independent retailers to the Scottish economy as well as the diversity in the sector.

They also recognise the business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit of those that own smaller chains.

An awards spokesperson said: "The Scottish Independent Retail Awards is the leading celebration of the independent retailers who enhance our communities and contribute to the national economy by employing hundreds of thousands of people.

"The event provided an excellent platform for networking and marketing as some of the most successful retailers and brands were present to celebrate the achievements of the retail sector.

"We would like to thank the public for their overwhelming support and congratulations to the winners for their huge achievements."
