Schools in and around Keith have signed up to the challenge, which sees pupils taking part in 15-20 minute sessions of outdoor physical activity each day. The aim is to ensure children across Moray keep fit and active.

Botriphnie, Newmill, Rothiemay, St Thomas’ and Keith Primary schools have all signed up to the initiative, with pupils completing laps of their school grounds at break and lunchtimes to complete their mile.

Some schools in Moray already have their own regimes which help to keep youngsters fit and healthy but the new Moray Mile initiative encourages even more to embrace daily outdoor activity.

Moray Mile was launched in response to the success of a similar programme introduced at a primary school in Stirling several years ago and which has been hailed as an example of best practice in terms of the benefits to children’s health and fitness.
