Heavy rain throughout the day has caused problems across Aberdeenshire and Moray on the roads.

People in Huntly have been pulling out all the stops to try and safeguard homes from flooding.

A flood warning was issued earlier this afternoon for the Milltown and The Meadows areas of the town.

With the River Deveron rising fast and tributaries predicted to flood, SEPA urged householders to take preventative measures.

Floodguards were installed on houses in that area and staff of the nearby Meadows Nursing Home and members of the public helped to sandbag the home.

SEPA said: "From late afternoon into early evening, the A920 and A96 will be affected by flood water. "Meadow Farm and properties at The Meadows will be affected. There is also a risk to Huntly Castle Caravan Park, Burnside Road, Riverside Drive, Sycamore Place, Pine View, Rowan Avenue and the Nordic Ski Centre.

"Impacts are expected to be similar or greater than the event on the 7th of October 2014."

Heavy, persistent rainfall will continue across the area throughout Thursday resulting in a continued rise of the River Deveron along with smaller watercourses.
