FIVE options to bring the Institute in Keith back into use have been highlighted in a new report.

The report from LDN Architects, the Forres-based firm commissioned by Keith and Strathisla Regeneration Partnership (KSRP) to conduct a feasibility study into the future of the building was presented to KSRP chairman Valery Dickson.

Mrs Dickson said she was pleased with the report which, together with leaflets and advertising to promote the drop-in session on February 19 at the Institute, cost £10,000 and was paid for by the Moray Towns’ Partnership.

She added: "They have opened up options that I certainly wouldn’t have thought of, and their costings of £1 million to £1.2 million to bring the building to a finished state seems reasonable."

Proposals for some of the options include a new entrance from Institute Lane West, splitting the building into two or three separately entered areas. The Mid Street entrance would be retained and the area off it could be used as a cafe, shop, office or studio, the report suggests.

"The ground floor hall and marriage room could be sectioned off and could work well as multifunctional spaces, such as a hall and bar or a nursery. For nursery use the car park would become an outside play space," says the report.

Option five would allow the Caretaker’s House to be re-established as a house or office. Costs range from £1.07 million to £1.21 million.
