Inverurie Town Hall will once again welcome the north-east's celebration of the Chinese New Year.

A spectacular concert organised by Aberdeen University's Confucius Institute will celebrate the Year of the Rat.

As the Confucius Institute's Sarah Wang explained: “This year our Gala show in Inverurie will consist of local Shire Kung Fu group, Yee’s Hung Ga Kung Fu performing their lion dance and Kung Fu demonstrations.

“We have visiting troupe from Tianjin University of Finance and Economics performing traditional Chinese instruments and we will finish with our own local Chinese Community choir.

“The troupe are made up of 12 performers from the full orchestra who are visiting from China to play a Chinese New Year tour in Scotland, Inverurie will be there only performance in the north-east so this is not to be missed.”

The Confucius Institute of the University of Aberdeen aims to provide Chinese language teaching and culture classes and cultural events to the north-east Scotland community, including University staff and students, schools, business and industry, and community organisations and individuals.

Tickets for the concert which takes place at Inverurie Town Hall on Saturday, February 7 cost £6 for adults and £4 for children/concessions and are available on the door or from
