A new transport interchange point in Oldmeldrum could be set to get the go ahead next week.
Councillors will debate the planning application at the upcoming meeting of the Formartine Area committee in Ellon.
The proposal seeks full planning permission for the erection of a transport interchange on land at Chapel Park, Oldmeldrum.
The site is located to the north-east of the village and is bordered by the A947 Aberdeen to Banff road to the west, where two bus stops would be located, the Oldmeldrum to
Methlick road to the north, open fields to the east and by St Matthews Church to the south. The site lies within the settlement boundary for Oldmeldrum and is allocated in the Local Development Plan for 35 homes and a transport interchange.
The interchange is intended to act as a mini park and ride facility allowing people to utilise the bus service provided on the A947 by providing parking for the bus stops currently located on this part of the road.
The service will allow for parking for people wishing to use the bus link in an attempt to provide more sustainable travel options for people living in the area.
The car park would have capacity for 40 cars including five disabled spaces, two electric vehicle spaces and also includes a cycle rank located next to the public road.
Part of the application also includes the re-positioning of bus stops on either side of the A947.
The road to the north of the car park would be reconfigured to include lay-by’s for each bus stop, the repositioning and replacement of the bus shelters and the realignment of the bus stops and the associated pavements and street lighting.
