PORT Elphinstone Primary School's assembly on Friday was a special event, albeit tinged with sadness.

It marked the retiral of nursery school teacher Una Thompson, a resident of Kemnay, after 20 years service.

She was presented with a beautiful chocolate cake and Una decided to take a photo of it to take home then to share the cake with the youngsters.

Her pupils had made a memory book of photographs for her to look at at her leisure, and head teacher Nicola Boyle presented Una with a basket of Begonia Sunray bulbs which she decided that she would like to plant in a favourite spot in the school grounds.
