Patrols help to reduce crime rate

By David Porter

Police Scotland has this week given an update on the effect of Christmas patrols in Garioch

Community officer PC James Stewart said: Following on from our statement in November, advising the public of increased patrols and joint-working with retailers in Garioch over the Xmas period, we can now provide an update on the results.

“When compared to December 2018, we have seen a 70 per cent reduction in shoplifting and a 50 per cent reduction in instances of threatening or abusive behaviour in the Garioch area.

"Whilst we will never be complacent, the results of the operation are there to see and show the value of police and local businesses working together.

“Although the Christmas period has now passed, we will continue to be visible and accessible to our community, to improve the lives of people who live and work across Garioch.

“Over the next few months, I will be holding local Ask the Police sessions, where members of the public can come and speak to me about matters within their community, questions about joining the police, or any other question they feel the police can assist with.”
