HIGH visibility patrols have been carried out as part of Operation CEDAR (Challenge, Educate, Detect and Reduce) to help prevent road accidents in the Aberdeenshire and Moray area.

As a result of patrols on the A92, A90, A98 and A947 a total of 293 vehicles were stopped, with 12 drivers reported for speeding offences and 15 others for various road traffic offences.

Four drivers were reported for drink-driving.

A total of 33 HGVs were stopped and routine checks carried out, but only some very minor offences were identified.

Road Policing Inspector Ewan Innes said: "Our focus on reducing the number of people injured in road traffic collisions throughout Aberdeenshire and Moray continues, and Operation CEDAR will continue to target drivers who selfishly believe that they can drive in an irresponsible manner.

"Operation CEDAR is not solely a weekend operation and our patrols are also out on identified injury collision routes throughout the week.

"Responsible motorists are without doubt in the majority."
