The by-election follows the death of Councillor Joanna Strathdee.

Councillor Strathdee, who died following a long battle with cancer, had served as a councillor since 1999.

A second vacancy has arisen with Liberal Democrat Councillor, Alastair Ross stepping down for health reasons.

Councillor Ross was first elected in 2007 and his contribution to the authority has been praised by colleagues of all political colours.

The leader of the Liberal Democrat group, Karen Clark said: “I am very sorry that we shall be losing such a valued member of our team on the council. “Alastair always put his community first and his recent ill health has meant he has not been able to carry out his duties as he would have wanted.”
