There was a steady stream of people making their way to the Stewart’s Hall in Huntly after the polls opened at 7am.

The polling stations will remain open until 10pm and there is expected to be an increase in the number of voters around tea-time.

Alex Salmond, former First Minister, is bidding to win the seat for the SNP, while Christine Jardine hopes to hold on to the seat for the Liberal Democrats.

Colin Clark (Conservative), Braden Davy (Labour) and Emily Santos (UKIP) are the other candidates.

The count will take place at the Aberdeen Exhibition and Conference Centre and the result will be declared in the early hours of Friday morning.
