A NEW online map detailing every German air raid on the UK during World War II has been published.
A researcher at the University of York used wartime intelligence reports to create the database, which marks the 80th anniversary of the first raid at the Firth of Forth on October 16, 1939.
Over 30,000 locations have been highlighted in the map, which is available online at: www.warstateandsociety.com/Bombing-Britain.
Although the towns of Inverurie, Ellon and Turriff were left unscathed – only one missle struck Ellon in November 1940 – surrounding villages including Fyvie, Auchterless, New Deer, Maud, Pitmedden and Kintore were also raided, albeit with no casualties according to the research.
