FOLLOWING a well attended meeting the decision was made by members to keep Ellon Legion Club open for the foreseeable future.

An Extraordinary General Meeting was called to discuss the potential closure of the club after it was feared that its struggling financial situation would mean that it was unable to continue.

More than 200 current club members turned up to show their support and hear more about the issues facing the club, and after hearing the facts those present voted unanimously in favour of saving the club and preventing its closure in the foreseeable future.

As the news broke on social media many described it as "great news", recognising the importance of the club to not only the members but also the wider Ellon community.

The fight to keep the club open doesn't end here, however, as it is now up to members to ensure that they use the club to its full potential and support its activities where possible to make sure that it doesn't face similar fears again in the future.

The committee are encouraging members to continue to show the same level of support and passion for the club as was displayed in the face of the potential loss of the club to help it go from strength to strength.

They are also encouraging anybody who let their membership lapse due to the uncertainty of the club's future to rejoin as soon as possible so that they can continue to enjoy the full benefits of the club.

Anybody who wishes to join Ellon Legion - either as a full member or as a social member - can collect a membership form from the bar.
