It's been a long wait, but staff and pupils at Ellon Primary School were finally able to celebrate the completion of their new kitchen and dining space recently.

The school’s catering has been provided by Meiklemill School, but since the opening of the new kitchen the staff have noticed that there are less leftovers as the pupils are enjoying the freshly prepared meals.

The whole school came together to celebrate the occasion with songs and cake, and the ribbons to the two entrance ways were cut by the school’s youngest and oldest pupils Hayden and Keiran.

In the afternoon the school held an afternoon to allow parents to come along and see the new facilities, with further entertainment provided by pupils.

Head teacher Yvonne O’Neil said: “The children are delighted with the new space and they continue to enjoy the nutritious and delicious food which is now prepared on the school premises.

“Construction started during the summer holidays and through terms one and two.

“The different lorries and cranes have kept all of our children entertained during breaks and lunches.

“The teams working on the project collaborated at all times around what we needed as a school; there really was a great team spirit around the build.

“We now have a larger, brighter dining hall that can be used as a learning space as well as for eating.”
