An Ellon care home has benefitted from a touring Doris Day musical to the tune of £1300.

A Date With Doris performed four shows in Aberdeenshire - Inverurie, Fraserburgh, Banchory and Ellon - to raise money for the town's Bonnyton House care home earlier this month.

The show told the story of Aileen (West End actress Aileen Donohue) preparing for a first date, and calming her nerves by singing along to her favourite music by Doris Day.

A Date With Doris featured 24 Doris Day songs including Que Sera Sera, On Moonlight Bay and Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps, as well as songs from her roles in musicals like Pillow Talk and Calamity Jane.

Director Nigel West said: “Thanks to all the people who attended our fundraising performance of A Date With Doris.

"We had a wonderful evening at the Victoria Hall in Ellon.

"The audience was very warm and receptive and clearly had a most enjoyable evening awarding our performers with a standing ovation.

"A real pleasure for all of us involved. Special thanks to all our helpers and of course Jeanette and Keith from Victoria Hall.”

Care home owner Kenny Winton said that the facility were "very grateful" for the support and the money raised through the production.

The money will be used for various resident activities, including outings, craft materials and entertainment like their upcoming performance from local lad Scott Armstrong.

Additional funds like the money raised through this endeavour increase the level of independence and the number of opportunities for residents.
