The generosity of locals means that a young grandmother battling stage four cancer can continue using alternative treatments which are prolonging her life.

A quiz night and raffles in the Station Hotel organised by local teenager Ben Jeffries - Heather's grandson - raised an incredible £878.89.

The Ellon Advertiser previously reported that Heather's family - who are spread across Scotland and England - had raised more than £11,000 to date not only for her treatment but also to support the charities which are supporting her, including Firefly Cancer Awareness and Eve's Trust.

On February 6 at the age of 45, Heather was diagnosed with stage four cancer of the pancreas which had spread to her liver – unfortunately there is currently no known cure for this type of cancer and this is when her family and friends decided to pull together to raise money to allow her to explore alternative treatments which would allow her to spend as much time with her four grandchildren as possible.

Unfortunately the family have been faced with this heartbreak before when Heather's father passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2002, increasing their resolve to support Heather however they can.

The alternative treatments - which include CBD oil - are currently costing heather around £1000 a month however she has been experiencing incredible results with her latest appointment last month suggesting that her cancer markers have dropped from 10,000 to 150 and the tumour on her pancreas has reduced.

Heather said: "The combination of chemotherapy and the oil is doing good, so I need to continue with this.

"It's very embarrassing to have to ask people for money or help but I'm desperately trying to fight for time and there's not much options when it comes to fighting for life!

“The treatment is slowing the cells down so they aren’t growing and dividing as much and there is less chance of them spreading – so this is what is giving me time and I'm praying for a miracle!"

The family have held various fundraisers throughout the year, including quizzes, bingo nights, walking Hadrian's Wall, a waxing and head shave, and a skydive.
