ZAHID Javed is half the man he used to be and he is delighted.

The former Buckie Community High School pupil has transformed his life by losing a staggering 12 stones in weight.

Zahid (25) admitted he was a "heart attack waiting to happen" at a colossal 24 stone after graduating from university in Glasgow.

A diet of fast food takeaways and little exercise had seen his weight balloon, and with a history of diabetes in the family, Zahid was concerned at the path he was on.

The law graduate was fed up feeling depressed and unhappy but it took one embarrassing moment to convince him he had to change his life.

"I was at a funfair in Glasgow, which comes to the city every year, and I couldn’t get on one of the rides. The person in charge of the ride couldn’t close the safety catch.

"It was just so embarrassing having to walk away from the ride in front of all the folk. Wee kids were laughing at me because I was so fat," he recalled.

"That is what pushed me into losing weight."

Zahid, who used to play for Buckie Cricket Club when he was younger, hopes his story can also inspire others to lose weight.

His fledgling business in Glasgow is flourishing and he already has 12,000 likes on his Facebook page.

Aberdeen-born Zahid says his confidence has improved since losing weight and last year he helped over 60 people make similar changes to their lives.

His uncle and grandfather are Zafar and Nemat Ali of the Buckie Carpet and Furniture Centre.
