HIGHLANDS and Islands MSP Jamie Halcro Johnston has said this weekend’s World Mental Health Day is an opportunity for people to take stock, think of themselves and their own mental health, and also think of others who may be finding the stresses caused by the Covid-19 pandemic hard to bear.

Mr Halcro Johnston said: “World Mental Health Day, which is being held this year on October 10, should give us pause for thought.

“The pressures placed on so many by the ongoing Covid pandemic – which is likely to be with us for some time to come – has taken a very significant toll in terms of mental health.

“Not seeing loved ones, jobs and livelihoods put at risk, worries about our children’s education or development, the relentless negative news and changing restrictions on our lives – all these things take a toll, and people should not hesitate in seeking support when needed.

“There is plenty of information available at www.mentalhealth.org.uk/your-mental-health/getting-help , the dedicated website that supports World Mental Health Day.

“It’s important that folk don’t hold back from seeking mental health support, and that all of us are conscious of how others may be feeling and that we have a role in helping those who need it”.
