POLICE Scotland has reminded owners to be mindful of vehicle security.

That follows a number of instances of vehicle theft and thefts from unattended vehicles.

Inspector Ewan Henderson of the Safer Communities Team, said: "Whilst officers are doing their bit to detect and deter those who engage in criminal activity, we seek the support of the public in working with us to tackle the problem.

"As well as continuing with the ongoing police activity, we also need our communities, especially those in rural areas, to work with us to make themselves a harder target.

"Basic measures such as the removal of keys to the vehicle when not in use and the securing of the vehicles, with valuable items not on display, will assist in this."

He added: "We would like to thank the public for their continued support and also acknowledge the useful intelligence that is regularly passed on and continues to assist us with any ongoing inquiries.

"We would also renew our appeal for the public to report any sightings of suspicious vehicles or activity to the police immediately.

"Where possible also note the vehicle registration number, the number and description of occupants and the last known direction of travel for the vehicle."
