Time for everyone to talk money as national campaign gears up

FAMILIES, individuals and business alike are being urged to talk about managing money as part of a nationwide campaign set to get under way at the start of next week.
November 9-13 is Talk Money Week, which is being run by the Money and Pensions Service, an arm's length body sponsored by Department of Work and Pensions (DWP) to ensure that people throughout the UK have guidance and access to the information they need to make effective financial decisions over their lifetime.
One of those encouraging people in Moray and across the north-east to take part in DWP employer and partnership manager Jane Munro.
She said: "During the week, we would want to encourage more people to take action to improve their own financial wellbeing and the financial wellbeing of those around them – whether through accessing free debt advice, saving regularly, seeking out financial education or relying less on credit for everyday spending."
The week provides a platform to have a conversation about money – from pocket money right through to pensions – between families and friends, at work or at school or any other walk of life. The goal is to turn talking about money from one of the UK’s least favourite topics into something commonplace as well as celebrating the work done by thousands of organisations to build financial wellbeing across the country.
Talking openly about money is vitally important for health, wealth and relationships. The effect of Covid-19 has made it more important than ever to start conversations about money.
Talking about money can no only help people make better financial decisions and avoid the worst of events like loss of income but can help children form good lifetime money habits.
The Talk Money week has a number of useful guides as to how to start conversations on the subject with a wide variety of people, from the young right through to the old, and also deals with the subject of financial abuse.
