Have fun at college or uni, but stay safe is the advice from the police.

With many students returning to college and university, the Police have issued some guidance.

Inspector Colin Mowat, from Aberdeenshire and Moray Division, "This week sees many of our young people take the exciting and challenging step into further education. While many will be attending colleges in Aberdeenshire and Moray, some students will travel to one of the establishments in Aberdeen.

"We appreciate that these young people will have many things on their minds and the prospect of crime may not be one of them. However, we’d like to take this opportunity to convey a crime prevention message.

"We ask that you take care to consider your personal safety and look after your belongings. When you’re out, make sure you don’t leave items like your phone on a table. You wouldn’t leave £100 out, so don’t take that risk with a phone.

"Socialising in unfamiliar territory may also leave young people vulnerable to a number of issues, including substance abuse.

"The Police Scotland website is full of useful tips on practical safety and further security advice for students. "We’d like to join our partners in welcoming new students to this important stage in their lives. We hope that individuals will take sensible precautions to stop this exciting experience from being spoiled by crime."
