THE call by First Minister Nicola Sturgeon for a nationwide lockdown to slow the spread of the coronavirus in Scotland has been welcomed by local MSP Stewart Stevenson.
Mr Stevenson, who as an over-70 is himself in self-isolation, threw his weight behind Ms Sturgeon's speech last Monday when she outlined strict new measures governing people's movement in a bid to save lives and reduce the impact on the NHS.
She added: "Coronavirus is the biggest challenge of our lifetimes and the measures we take to tackle it must reflect the magnitude of that."
Mr Stevenson stressed the importance of adhering to the new regulations outlined by Ms Sturgeon.
"The First Minister has made very clear what we need to do to get through this situation as a community," he continued.
"We need to shop once a week or as infrequently as possible and not gather in groups in public unless they are family groups. We must stay at home as much as possible.
"It is vital that people follow this advice."
