During a monthly check by members of Fochabers retained firefighting team, it was discovered that the life-ring situated there had been removed.

The life-ring is one a of a series of which are station along the banks of the river, having been put in place by local firefighters following a successful community funding campaign.

Fochabers fore station crew commander Dave Crawford said: "Given these are checked weekly by a local resident and no emergency calls were received to that location, we can only presume that the ring has been removed by persons unknown for reasons other than the purpose they were meant for.

"These rings were put in place and funded by the community in the case of an emergency so they can be used to save lives. Now one of the busiest areas of the River Spey has no life-ring.

"However, since this we're delighted to have received a phone call from Brian at Peles Disco, Mosstodloch who would like to donate four life rings, one to replace missing life-ring at Tugnet and other three going to be kept for any future incidents.

"Thank you so much to Brian for his kind gesture."
