Members of Moray Council's economic growth, housing and environmental sustainability committee heard at their most recent meeting that work had been under way to bring in a number of measures at all six of the local-authority run harbours over the course of the third quarter of 2020-21.

In Buckie, new lights have been installed in the chill which has improved the lighting and prevents the lights getting damaged. The sides of the chill door have also been reinforced to prevent further damage.

The pontoon, fish market and various minor areas have been treated with algae killer to prevent slippages, while various plumbing issues have been rectified in showers and public toilets, mainly to prevent slippery surfaces.

There has been a temporary change to the Cliff Terrace lighthouse from occulting to fixed lighting.

Over at Findochty, the third quarter saw the pontoons closed on health and safety grounds. These have now been removed as part of the pontoon replacement project.

At Portknockie, the pontoons and slipway have been treated with algae killer while extensive work has been carried out on the pontoon hinges, including a new design of hinge, fitting a new float and plates to secure the bolts.

New life ring holders have been installed, including one at a new location at the top of the steps from the paddling pool.

Full new railing is on order for the north pier after safety railing had to be cut away due to corrosion.

Handrail has also had to be replaced at the top of the steps to the north pier at Cullen Harbour.

Redundant hardware continues to be removed with a start on toe rails and street lighting has been improved on mid pier.
