THERE will no longer be the need to book a time slot at most of Moray's recycling centres from this coming Monday.

The centres at Gollachy, Dallachy, Keith and Forres will shed the restrictions imposed last year due to the pandemic, although the Chanonry in Elgin will continue with the booking system for the time being given the particular circumstances around that site and traffic management.

The news was welcomed by leader of the Conservative group on Moray Council Councillor Tim Eagle (Buckie).

He said: "It is of course great news that we see the Covid restrictions easing across Moray, although I do recognise the importance of us all remaining vigilant and continuing to follow remaining rules to keep infection levels low.

"One of the areas which has been a hot topic with many local people having contacted me is the booking system at Morays recycling centres. Whilst the system was essential to protect staff and users during the deepest Covid restrictions it also caused many to feel fly tipping was on the increase with many landowners getting in touch with issues. The discussion over when the booking system has been dropped has been a regular conversation between me and senior staff.

"I am grateful to the many council staff who have, I know, worked hard to keep these facilities running during a difficult time but I have to be honest and say I am delighted to see this system dropped for most of our sites.

"I want to ensure Moray is a beautiful place, there is no reason whatsoever to fly-tip with recycling facilities within easy reach of most communities. I also urge everyone to sort their waste to Moray can continue to improve upon it recycling rates, we all must play our part in supporting the environment."
