A £9,881 grant has been secured by Portknockie Primary School Parent Council which will be used to buy new equipment for the school playground.

The money will fund new football goals with basketball hoops attached, as well as chalkboards and benches to create an outdoor classroom.

Parent council chairwoman Jane McKay said: “We were thrilled to secure this funding and really look forward to seeing the equipment being installed soon.

“We hope the school pupils and whole community get good use of the equipment.

“As well as receiving this grant, we have held various fundraisers to gather some of the cash ourselves and we received a generous donation from Portknockie Football Club when it folded.

“The equipment is for the whole community. It is owned by Portknockie village as we gathered the funding and it is not from Moray Council.”

Awards for All is a joint awards programme from the Big Lottery Fund and sportscotland, and makes grants to help people take part in arts, sport, social, environmental, health related, educational and other community activities.
