Police speed check catches ton up drivers

TWO motorists were clocked doing over 100 mph during a speed check in Moray and Aberdeenshire.
Ten men were detected for driving at excessive speeds.
Two of the motorists were stopped in separate incidents on Saturday April 18, driving at 103mph and 101mph respectively in a 60mph speed limit area of the A96 Inverurie to Huntly road. Another motorist was recorded driving at 106mph in a 70mph limit on the A90 Aberdeen to Ellon road near Blackdog.
The speed checks were part of Operation CEDAR (Challenge, Educate, Detect and Reduce), an ongoing operation which was launched to encourage drivers to take more responsibility on the region’s roads.
Road Policing Sergeant David Pirie, said: "Despite repeated warnings about the dangers, it is frustrating to find that drivers of all ages are still willing to ignore speed limits. Driving at high speeds puts not only those responsible in danger, but places other people’s lives at risk too.
"Police Scotland is committed to keeping people safe and we are determined to do everything we can to make our roads safer. We would encourage all motorists to think about their actions while on the road, as speeding can have devastating consequences.
"The safety of road users is our number one priority and this is reflected in the ongoing work under the Operation CEDAR banner. Those reported will now be dealt with by the justice system and face being fined, having penalty points added to their driving records and possible disqualification."
