New Moray campervan sites to have waste disposal points installed

WORKS to instal chargeable campervan waste disposal points across five sites in Moray are being tendered for.

It comes as Moray Council, like many other Scottish councils, prepares for a significant rise in caravan and campervan trips due to the increasing popularity of staycations, as a result of ongoing pandemic restrictions.

Upgrades at Portknockie (harbour), Portgordon (car park), Burghead (harbour), Ballindalloch (Cragganmore) and Craigellachie (Fiddich Park) will also see a chargeable water supply installed in this first phase of works. Updates on later phases will be released as plans progress.

Concerns were raised by residents last year about unhygienic waste disposal due to a lack of facilities, and Moray Council is investing £20,0000 in new facilities.

Also being introduced are a number of operational operational improvements, including installing temporary toilets, inspecting and cleaning sites seven days a week, enhanced rubbish collections and increased litter picking in and around the sites.

A booking system, and details of charges, will be available on Moray Council’s website before the first facility opens.

Moray Council’s Head of Environmental and Commercial Services, Stephen Cooper, said: “We know there’s a busy season of staycations ahead, and we all need to play our part in keeping Moray clean and tidy for residents and visitors to enjoy.

“We’re upgrading facilities and ask that visitors use these safely and hygienically, and respect our landscapes by putting rubbish in the bins provided, or taking it with them if bins are full.”
