Regional Transport Partnership, Nestrans, has launched a new Community Sustainable Travel Grant. The scheme makes funding available for projects across the north-east that support or encourage active and sustainable travel.

Groups can apply for up to 100 per cent of the funding needed for a range of projects; from community groups who wish to improve local paths or instal bike parking, to charities that wish to buy electric/cargo bikes or fund a travel plan.

Nestrans has been running an existing sustainable travel grant, aimed at businesses, since 2004. This new version of the grant makes the funding more accessible to organisations that would struggle to supply the match funding required under the original scheme.

Nestrans chairwoman Councillor Sandra Macdonald said: “There is a real desire from local groups and social enterprises to carry out sustainable travel projects in their communities.

"I am delighted that we are able to help fund some of these through this new grant scheme. I look forward to seeing the exciting initiatives and projects that come forward.”
