A NORTH-east MSP is set to hold a series of pop-up cost of living surgeries across her Banffshire and Buchan Coast constituency.

With record numbers of the population struggling with the UK cost of living crisis, Karen Adam MSP has reached out to Citizens Advice Scotland, the Aberdeenshire and Moray Council’s Housing Departments, Social Security Scotland, Home Energy Scotland, and the Trussell Trust to participate in the new style of constituency surgeries.

The first event is due to take place in Fraserburgh from 11am-3pm on July 15 in the Dalrymple Hall. Advice organisations are also due to attend, providing on-hand support alongside Ms Adam.

Summer recess had traditionally seen Ms Adam’s predecessor, Stewart Stevenson, travelling the constituency in a caravan tour, stopping off briefly in each settlement to offer the public the chance to speak with the former MSP about issues.

Ms Adam has instead been widely recognised for taking a new approach to politics with her forward thinking and innovation to being an elected representative, creating accessibility and tangible support for people seeking support. The aim of this new style of surgeries is to speed up the support process so members of the public can get the help they require as quickly as possible.

The groups and organisations invited to take a stall at the event are representative of a large proportion of casework regularly received by the MSP. Buckie is next to benefit from the MSP’s second cost-of-living support surgery on August 5, and Banff on August 12 (venues to be confirmed).

Organisations willing to participate in the events should book a stall by contacting Karen Adam’s Community Engagement Co-ordinator at Alan.Petrie@Parliament.scot

Ms Adam said: “I know it has been incredibly tough over the past 18 months.

"The UK government has caused enormous harm on our citizens through their self-inflicted cost of living crisis, so please get in touch or come along to one of my surgeries should you feel there is anything at all I can do to help.

“As we look ahead to the winter months, we know financial hardship in the UK will continue to worsen with more people falling into debt or living hand to mouth. That’s why I am doing everything I can to be proactive in providing whatever support I can instead of being reactive.

“I want as many people out there to know and understand that I am here to help, and I will be using my time away from parliament assisting as many people in the community as possible.”

Constituents can contact Ms Adam for support by emailing Karen.Adam.MSP@Parliament.scot
