The RNLI were alerted in the early evening of yesterday (Thursday), as a spokesman for the lifeboat station explained.

"Buckie RNLI's William Blannin and her volunteer crew were launched at 5.40pm after a flare was spotted off the coast of Lossiemouth.

"The lifeboat teamed up with the Coastguard Rescue 151 helicopter based in Inverness to search the area but nothing was found.

"William Blannin returned to her moorings at around 9.15pm."

The call-out was the first for a while for the Buckie RNLI team.
