A BUCKIE community group have been handed a cash boost thanks to the perseverance of two local youngsters.
Buckie's Roots, who have brightened up Cluny Square with floral displays over the past few years, have been handed £100 by Sonny (8) and Andie (5) Belcher.
The Millbank pupils' inspiration came from saving a plant which otherwise might have ended up in the bucket, as proud mum Nicola explained.
"Back in January I'd ordered a plant for my sister but when it arrived it was badly damaged.
"Rather than throwing it away I thought it was an opportunity for the kids to learn something so we propagated some stems and eventually potted them.
"Once they were in pots we put them on Facebook in return for a donation.
"The kids raised £60 from and we put more money in from what was left of a kitty when myself and some friends were out for afternoon tea. Myself and my husband made it up to £100.
"Cluny Square looks amazing thanks to Buckie's Roots, they do so much and it doesn't go unnoticed."
One of those delighted at the donation was Buckie's Roots chairwoman Meg Jamieson.
She said: "We're very grateful to Sonny and Andie for this donation, it's great to see young folk getting involved in things like this.
"They do a lot of stuff on the environment and nature in school these days which is great.
"After all, they'll be the generation ultimately taking over from us!"
