Yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon saw the lifeboat, the William Blannin launch at 2.50pm.

A spokesman for Buckie RNLI said: "Within 10 minutes of being paged, her volunteer crew of seven led by deputy coxswain Stuart Mack were making best speed to the scene of the incident.

"UK Coastguard had received reports that a sea-kayaker had capsized in Sandend Bay and was unable to get back into their craft: the Coastguard tasked the lifeboat to investigate and offer assistance if required.

"The lifeboat entered Sandend Bay at 3.20pm but was almost immediately stood down when the Coastguard reported that the casualty and their kayak had already been assisted to shore.

"The lifeboat returned to her berth in Buckie and was readied for further service by 4pm."

The William Blannin and her crew were in action the week prior, on Wednesday, September 15 when they were called out by the Coastguard following reports of a person in difficulty in the water at Portgordon.

However, the lifeboat had barely cleard Buckie Harbour when she was stood down when it emerged that the casualty had self-rescued to shore and was no longer in danger.

Buckie RNLI are always keen to hear from people who are prepared to volunteer their time with the maritime search and rescue charity. In addition to a variety of roles with the sea-going crew, opportunities exist to contribute to the shore-based fundraising team.
