IT was time to honour Buckie Thistle’s top performers last Saturday evening.

A special ceremony at the Victoria Park function hall saw striker Sam Urquhart claim the Banffshire Advertiser Player of the Year award. This will sit alongside the Supporters’ Player of the Year trophy on his mantelpiece.

Also in among the silverware was his fellow forward John McLeod, whose prolific season in front of goal made him a shoo-in for the Top Goal Scorer gong, while classy midfielder Kevin Fraser was unveiled as the Players’ Player of the Year.

There was also silverware for young Jordan Tallis, who was handed the Young Supporter of the Year award.

Earlier in the day the team were doing their best to earn some silverware on the park, edging just that bit closer to the HFL title after a 6-0 rout of local rivals Keith. Hat-trick hero of the afternoon was McLeod, with Urquhart, Fraser and Lewis MacKinnon also joining in the goals fest.

The result leaves the Jags joint second with Brora Rangers and just three points behind Cove Rangers, who stuttered to a 0-0 draw at home against Turriff Utd. Buckie have a game in hand over the Aberdeen side.
