KEEP an eye out for kids at risk – that is the message going out to Moray communities as lockdown continues.
Schools will continue with remote learning into at least the middle of February and residents in the region are being reminded to keep an eye out for each other, particularly families who may be struggling to cope with this lockdown.
Many families across Moray face new challenges and stresses, and some children may experience abuse or neglect.
Samara Shah, independent chairwoman of the Moray Child Protection Committee reminds everyone to do their bit to help keep children and young people safe from harm.
She said: “We should all be alert to signs that all is not well for a child or young person and to take action if we’re worried about a child’s wellbeing during this current phase of the pandemic.
“The role of the community to use their ears and eyes to help keep children safe from harm is particularly important when most children are not in the usual routine of school or nursery. I’d repeat our mantra that it’s always better to say something than do nothing.”
The social work team at Moray Council is available on 01343 554370 or 03457 565656 if it’s out of usual office hours.
Those who are very worried about a child you should call Police Scotland on 101, or if a child is in immediate danger, call 999.
Children who are worried, do not feel safe and are not sure what to do are being reassured that there are lots of people who can help and support them.
One option is to talk to someone in their family who they trust, or to a teacher, a social worker or the police.
Alternatively, they can call Childline on 0800 11 11. There is a lot of information and advice on the Childline website at www.childline.org.uk
