Buckie bike registration session seeks to combat thieves

BIKE owners in Buckie are being offered the chance to help deter thieves thanks to a national registration scheme.

The police are set to run a registration session at Buckie Leisure Centre on Saturday May 1 for bicycle owners in the town and surrounding area.

Community officer PC Rachel Barclay said: "BikeRegister is the UK's national cycle database and the leading online bicycle identification and registration initiative aiming to reduce cycle theft, identify stolen bikes and assist in owner recovery.

Bike marking events are taking place at Buckie, Forres and Elgin Leisure Centres between 11am and 2pm on Saturday, May 1 and will be appointment only. Appointments will be given in 15-minute windows.

"If you would like to make an appointment, please email BuckieCPT@Scotland.pnn.police.uk using 'BikeRegister' as your subject title with your preferred time, location, your name and contact details."
