Over a year in the making from initial public consultations to assess the level of support for the formation of a trust, FAB DT took its first bold steps forward at an EGM held in the Victoria Park Function Hall on Wednesday, March 15.

On hand to outline the purpose, benefits and process for electing trustees was Dawn Brown from the Development Trust Association Scotland, who has been advising the steering group on their journey over the last year or so.

Highlighting that development trusts are charitable organisations owned, led and controlled by the community, she said: "Development trusts are for local people led by local people.

"They harness local talent to support other local organisations and can draw down funding other organisations may be unable to.

"They also keep money local and are not a threat to existing community groups like community councils or area forums."

She went on to highlight the many benefits of becoming a trustee or trust member, including help deliver the aspirations of the community, getting a say in the direction the organisation takes, learning new skills and having a bit of fun, too.

The subsequent EGM saw steering group chairwoman Susan Chalmers joined by Christine Fairbairn, Ian Collacott, Cheryl Birtwistle and Jim Murray as trustees. Ms Brown noted that more trustees can be co-opted at a later date if required.

Ms Chalmers added: "The trustees will now go forward and select who will fill the various office bearer roles."
