CULLEN brought the festive season to life in the town when the Christmas lights were switched on.

Doing the honours at the Millennium Square on Thursday, November 25 was Cullen Primary pupil Joni Greer.

Adding to the festive cheer was the Cullen retained firefighting team and their suitably decorated fire engine playing Christmas music.

However, the event was very different to the usual community extravaganza, as Cullen Christmas Lights Committee chairman David Paterson explained.

"Due to the pandemic we didn't have a big event this year, so there were none of the usual stalls, teas or fireworks.

"However, we were delighted to see so many people coming along on the evening, more than we expected. A number of businesses also stayed open later for the event.

"We do have three new lights this year which are in three unused windows on the Grand Street side of the square. Our main lights looked brighter this year thanks to rewiring done by the team.

"Hopefully next year will see us back to something near normal but we just feel that this year is to soon due to the coronavirus."
