ELECTION 2021: North East regional list candidates unveiled

A TOTAL of 16 parties and two individual candidates are vying for seats in the North East regional list.

Announced recently, votes will be asked to pick either a party of an Independent individual candidate with their second vote.

List vote parties and candidates will be presented on the peach ballot paper. Voters should chose one party or candidate and mark their choice with an 'X'.

Standing on the North East regional list are: Abolish the Scottish Parliament Party; Alba; All for Unity; Freedom Alliance – Integrity, Society, Economy; Independent Green Voice; Reform UK; Renew; Restore Scotland; Scottish Conservative and Unionist Party; Scottish Family Party; Scottish Green Party; Scottish Labour Party; Scottish Liberal Democrats; Scottish Libertarian Party; Scottish National Party; United Kingdom Independence Party; Geoffrey Alexander Farquharson; Laura Marshall (both Independent).

In the constituency vote, there are six candidates: Karen Adam (SNP); Jason Duncan (Freedom Alliance); Mark Findlater (Conservative); David Philip McHutchon (Restore Scotland); Alison Simpson (Liberal Democrats); Georgia Strachan (Labour Party).

Everyone is represented by a total of eight MSPs – one constituency and seven regional.

In all, the Scottish Parliament is comprises 129 MSPs, of whom 73 are constituency and 56 regional.

Regional MSPs are intended to ensure that the final numbers in parliament are more reflective of the votes cast for each party or candidate.
