SIX candidates are to contest the Banffshire and Buchan Coast seat at the Scottish Parliament election on May 6.

Four of these had already made their intentions to stand known prior to the nomination deadline on Wednesday, March 31.

Karen Adam will be attempting to follow in the footsteps of the retiring MSP Stewart Stevenson and retain the seat for the SNP.

Hoping to wrest the seat from the SNP will be Jason Duncan (Freedom Alliance – Integrity, Society, Economy), Mark Findlater (Scottish Conservatives), David McHutchon (Restore Scotland), Alison Simpson (Scottish Liberal Democrats) and Georgia Strachan (Scottish Labour).

A total of 67 polling stations across the constituency will be open on May 6 from 7am to 10pm with the count being held at the P&J Live Arena in Aberdeen the following day.

Details of the list candidates for the North East electoral region will be made known in due course.
