AS the country prepares to go to the polls this Thursday, six candidates are contesting the Banffshire and Buchan Coast constituency.

Scotland goes to the polls on Thursday, May 6.
Scotland goes to the polls on Thursday, May 6.

Vying to be elected MSP for the seat are: Karen Adam (Scottish National Party); Jason Duncan (Freedom Alliance – Integrity, Society, Economy); Mark Findlater (Scottish Conservatives); David McHutchon (Restore Scotland); Alison Simpson (Scottish Liberal Democrats); Georgia Strachan (Scottish Labour).

Stewart Stevenson, who held the seat for the SNP since 2001, is retiring.

Voters will be handed two ballot papers in the polling station. The lilac paper is to be used for the constituency vote, with voters asked to choose one candidate and mark their choice with a cross in the correct box.

The peach ballot paper, meanwhile, is for the regional list. Again, voters should select one party or Independent candidate and mark their choice with a cross in the appropriate box.

In the North East electoral region, of which Banffshire and Buchan Coast is part, some 16 parties and two Independent candidates are standing.
